#44 Scott Hanson fought his way through twelve riders
to win the Open Novice "A" main event. His fastest lap time was 16.12
seconds.

#22 Jimmy Gillen fought his way around #558 Branden Watters for the
victory in the Open Amateur main event. Gillen also had the fastest lap
of the race at 15.30 seconds.

#82 e Travis Petton the 2nd and #89 Danny Perkins are always found at
the front of the Bomber class. On this night Petton took home the gold.

#71m Jon Nunes got burried on the start of the Vet +35 main
event. He still earned the victory though and turned blistering 15.18
second lap time. #77 Paul Herman, #42 Will Ott, #178 Robert Stettler,
#77v Jason Craven, & #4 James Davis.

#35 Tim Watters beat out #26 Steele Friedrich for the Senior
Vet +50 Novice victory. Next season both riders deserve the bump up to
the Amateur ranks.

#144 David Jorgensen topped the Open Unclassified
field. Here #22 Jimmy Gillen, #112 Jace Callison, #37 Chris Foster, and
#64 Christian Olguin give chase. Jorgensen's fastest lap was 15.72
seconds.

#50 Mel Stoner held off Preston Petty to earn the victory in the
Premier Senior Main event for riders over the age of seventy...
Stoner's fastest lap time was 17.35 seconds.

Vince Graves topped the Super Senior class with #22 David
Molitor a solid second and #3j DeWayne Jones finishing third. Grave's
fastest lap time was 15.96 seconds.

#171 Tucker Mount from Paso Robles, Ca. won the Youth 65cc main
event and the Youth 85cc 2-stk Beg. main. #82 is Travis Petton the 4th,
#7x is Grant Holmes, and #117 is Zaden Florez.

#82 Travis Petton the 4th and #95 Clayton Williams made the 85cc
2-stk. Nov. main event look like a national! They swapped the lead,
paint and plastic, with Petton finally emerging as the victor in what
was one of the best races of the evening.

The mishap of the night involved Travis Petton the 4th, #82 on
the ground, #12 James Ott who went over Petton's bike and into the wall
and #95 Clayton Williams who avoided hitting anyone and just laid his
bike down.

All the Youth 50cc racers are combined on the race track, but
scored separately. #46 Colin Petton won the 50cc 2-stk novice
while #25 Travis Horn topped the 50cc 4-stk Beg. field.

#07 Allison Stacey won the war in the Youth 250cc Open class. She
had to really pick up her pace as the competition is stiff. She was up
to the task and never fails to amaze.

#12e Jeff Lessley is always FAST! Whether on his Bultaco or
Hodaka he rules the 250-360 vintage 2-stk class. His fastest lap was
15.52 seconds!

How they started is how they finished in the Senior+50 Expert final.
#87 Jeff Johnson 1st, #12e Jeff Lessley 2nd, and #70l Jimmy
Lundgren 3rd.

#95 Clayton Williams of Bakersfield, Ca. looked
flawless capturing the victory in the 85cc Open Class. His fastest lap
was a 15.67 seconds on his 2-stk mount.

The start of the twenty lap pro main event. From Pole #98 Kayl
Kolkman, #69 Jimmy Wood, #26e Dylan Morin, #44e Nick Armstrong, #144
David Jorgensen, #17r Nick Gil, and #87 Jimmy Fishback. (There were
fourteen riders that made the main event)

#69 Jimmy Wood led all twenty laps of the pro main event. #98 Kayl
Kolkman chased him the entire way. Both national riders lapped up to
fifth place by the time the checkered flag flew.

Here Jimmy Wood get's the checkered flags from starter Rudy Gil. It was a wire to wire race for Wood.

After winning the twenty lap pro main event Jimmy Wood gives girlfriend Ashleigh a ride on his victory lap.

Pit Pet of the day goes to Ian Fould's French Bulldog "WATSON"

Jeff Johnson gets closer at every round with the set up of his new TT-500 mount. He seemed happy at round #11.
Travis Petton the 2nd is building a new Triumph to race in the Vintage 750cc class. It should be finished for next season.

By one thirty
in the afternoon the pits were packed at Perris Raceway.
Must have been the moon, the starts, or perhaps the excitement
of the last races of the season for the S.C.F.T.A., whatever the reason the
largest part of the one hundred forty seven riders that made up the twenty six
heat races and twenty one main events had staked out their territory of dirt
and set up this traveling circus we call dirt track. Lest we forget the
associated pit crew, mechanics, friends, and family that accompany each rider,
this was a packed house for round eleven of the twelve round series. In the
interest of time, (due to daylight savings and the ten p.m. curfew) the riders meeting was held at
four p.m. with practice
thereafter.
All the youth classes, which is the normal order of things,
start off the racing program. The first main event being the Youth 250cc class
where four riders hit turn one side by side with Jace Callison having inching
out a slight lead by the exit from turn two over Allison Stacey, Justin Hanson,
Jaycee Jones, and Clayton Williams. By the completion of lap two Williams found
his way forward around Jones into fourth while Stacey was applying pressure on
Callison. On the next go round exiting turn two Stacey got a drive and went
under Callison down the back straight to take over at the front. Then on the
next lap Callison was making a run at Stacey when in the same spot in turn two
he made a mistake that cost him valuable real estate. This gave Stacey the
cushion she needed to control the race from the front. By this point Williams
had caught Hanson and was fighting for the third place position. But laps wound
down and time ran out and when the checkered flag flew Stacey was at the front,
where she usually is with Callison second, Hanson third holding off Williams in
fourth and Alex Crosby a distant fifth.
In the 85cc open final Clayton Williams Shot to the front
ahead of Evan Harich, and James Ott. From the first turn Williams was on a
mission and began to gap the field. Entering turn one on lap two Ott passed
Harich only to have Harich go right back at him in turn two. As these two
fought over second place it allowed Williams to further increase his lead all
while Travis Petton the 4th was working his way forward through the
field. A lap later Ott had secured the second place spot but Williams had
almost a full straightaway lead at the front. Harich looked secure in third
while Frank Flores was under attack from Petton and Grant Holmes. By the white
flag Williams held a four second gap over Ott and Petton had advanced to third
over Harich, Flores, and Holmes, which is how they would finish the race.
In the 85cc 2-stk Novice main Travis Petton would redeem
himself with the same cast of characters by getting a better start. This time
Petton would lead the most laps over Clayton Williams, Grant Holmes, James Ott,
and Alyssa Flores. Only to give up the lead on the last lap, but what has
become the normal pattern for Petton is to save his best for last. Petton
always seems to find a way to advance on the last lap, which is exactly what he
did to Williams to snatch the victory back in what was probably the most
thrilling youth race of the night.
Tucker Mount is new to Perris and the S.C.F.T.A. but already
is making his presence known. Mount launched to the front of the field in the
Youth 65cc class with Travis Petton the 4th close behind in second,
Zaden Florez (another newcomer) third and Grant Holmes fourth. On the exit from
turn two for the second time Holmes came oh so close to throwing it all away,
but managed a great save, however his race was over as this gave the front
three too much of a gap. A lap later Mount held a 1.1 second gap and turned a
16.36 second lap time. By this point Florez had also displaced Petton to take
over at second and was matching Mount's pace at the front. Florez though would
charge in hard entering the corners and make up ground only to blow the exit by
going wide coming out of turns two and four. Mount held his lead for the win in
front of Florez, Petton, and Holmes, and also backed up this victory with
another win in the Youth 85cc 2-stk Beg. Main event.
Eleven riders made up the Open Unclassified field where
David Jorgensen out of Stockton, Ca. nailed the start to lead into turn one. Jimmy
Gillen dropped in right behind Jorgensen with Jace Callison third and Chris
Foster fourth. Gillen wasted little time and went to work on Jorgensen showing
him a wheel entering turn three on lap two. This while Callison knowing you
can't pass if you just follow moved up to a high line on the track joining the
battle and a lap and a half later went under Gillen in turn four pushing Gillen
wide as he took over at second. This seemed to shake Gillen up as he then had a
big bobble dropping him all the way back to sixth position. All this gave
Jorgensen some breathing room at the front while Foster now in third was
closing up to Callison. With a lap remaining Colt Foster had settled in fourth
with Andre Ochs in fifth and Gillen looking stuck in sixth, although Gillen did
have the fastest single lap time of the class at 15.35 seconds. The last lap
changed nothing and the finishing order remained as stated.
The Senior +50 class ran Novices and Amateurs combined but
scored separately. Tim Watters (Nov.) led from the start over the entire field
with Corey Bauman (Am.) in second. On the first run down the back straight
Steele Friedrich (Nov.) displaced Bauman to move up into second overall on the
racetrack. However Bauman wasn't just laying down taking this and recaptured
second on the run up the front straight. At the front Watters only held a one
bike length lead and needed to put his head down and try to get away. Bill Wright
(Am.) was in fourth only to make a mistake on the second run through turn four
leaving the door open for advancement of Bob Stettler (Nov.) into the fourth
place position. Watters meanwhile took his lap time down to 15.83 seconds
making him the only rider to dip under the sixteen second mark. By the end of
lap three Bauman was running a high line on the racetrack allowing Friedrich to
close in and on the next trip through turns one and two Friedrich took over at
second. Bauman appeared to be having a problem as he continued to run a high
line which made for a three way battle over second place. Meanwhile at the
front Watters was gone and would take the victory. Friedrich would win the war
for second overall with Bauman barely holding off Stettler for third.
Jeff "The Jester" Johnson is one of those riders
that are "Eye Candy" on a motorcycle. He's just fun to watch and
makes it look soo easy. It seems with every round Johnson keeps fine tuning his
new TT-500 Yamaha and just gets faster and faster. In the Senior +50 Expert
main Johnson burst off the line from pole and never looked back, it was clear
from the start the race would be for second. Jeff Lessley on his vintage
Bultaco is no back-marker by any means and one of the smoothest accomplished
racers in dirt track. But try as he might his 2-stk just couldn't match the
15.12 second lap times put in by Johnson. In the early going Bill Kolkman
(father of Kayl) ran in third but would succumb to the advances of Jimmy
Lundgren and Larry Earhart by race end. Dan Kane would finish in sixth with Jim
Ottele only a bike length shy of being lapped finishing seventh.
Jason Craven led the Vet +35 field into turn one with Paul
Herman and Jon Nunes in tow.
Nunes quickly made a pass on Herman for second between turns
one and two starting the second lap, this while Bob Stettler ran in fourth, Jim
Rosa fifth, Brad Rudy sixth, and Will Ott seventh. A lap later Craven went wide
in turn four allowing Nunes to pull alongside and take over the lead. Craven
wasn't through though and came back at Nunes on the next trip through turn one
and tagged Nune's rear wheel hard and thankfully neither rider went down. As
the white flag came out Rosa had made his way
up to fourth in front of Stettler and Nunes had a clear track in front of him.
Nunes would go on to take the win however didn't come close to his fastest lap
time of 15.18 seconds he turned in the heat race. Craven would finish a close
second with Herman falling off the leaders pace a further back third.
The Open Novice class had enough entries to warrant an
"A" and "B" main events, with the fastest from the class
transferring to the "A" main. For the last few rounds Scott Hanson
has been the force to be reckoned with in the class and again took the lead off
the start entering turn one in the "A" main. Jace Callison slotted in
at second only to hit the dirt in turn four making his race finished and
handing second over to Paul Pitzonka. Running in third was Jess Flores with
Jeremy Templeman fourth as Hanson at this point held a half a straightaway
lead. With three laps complete Templeman had moved up into the second place
position dropping Pitzonka to third and Flores
to fourth. The fastest rider in the class was Callison who lapped at a 15.45
second lap time but was too far back to advance his position. Hanson's steady
16.12 second laps were good enough for the victory and the second fastest laps
of the field. Templeman remained in second with Pitzonka third, Flores fourth and Parker Earhart fifth.
Another one of the Watters family, Branden wanted a victory
on this night and led the Open Amateur class into turn one followed by
Christian Olguin. Jimmy Gillen wanting to redeem himself quickly took second
place away on the first exit from turn four dropping Olguin to third. On the second
run into turn three Paul Herman running in fourth tucked the front end and went
down all by himself bringing out the red flag stopping the race. On the
re-start Watters again led but this time Gillen was away in second with Rich
Hanson third and Allison Stacey fourth. On the second run through turns three
and four Gillen held to the inside and got under Watters to take over the lead
on the run up the front straight. A lap later Andre Ochs had worked his way up
to fifth from a seventh place start and was on the move forward. On his next
run through turn one Ochs put a wheel under Stacey and moved up to fourth while
Gillen with a 15.30 second lap time was pulling away at the front. For the
remainder of the race the order remained the same with Gillen at thirteen years
of age taking another victory for his trophy case.
The twenty lap Pro Main Event had fourteen riders in the
field and marked the return to racing at Perris of Jimmy Wood. With Kayl
Kolkman and Wood the only national numbers in the field, one of these two were
the odds-on favorite. Kolkman sat on pole with Wood to his right. But former
Pro main event winners Dylan Morin, Nick Armstrong, Nick Gil, and David Bush
were also in this final and wanted something to say as to the outcome. At the
first flash of green Kolkman reacted first and hit turn one side by side with
Wood, the two went down the back straight side by side as well with Wood on the
outside who then crossed under on the exit from turn four to lead the first lap
by inches. Wood then went slightly wide in turn one as Kolkman dropped to the
inside to re-take the lead and then repeat the same maneuver all over again to
see Wood lead lap two. All this while Armstrong was a close third waiting for
things to settle in as Morin was right behind in fourth with David Jorgensen in
fifth and Gil in sixth. After the heat races Wood had made the statement
"I'm not sure if I can run the pace for twenty laps" which brought
into question his fitness. By lap five it was clear the win would go to Wood or
Kolkman, with Wood having the fastest lap time in the heat race at 14.74
seconds to Kolkman's 15.10. Robert Bush was seventh with speedway racer Jimmy
Fishback eighth and Cody Bohanman ninth. By lap eight Wood and Kolkman both
were into lappers and had gapped Armstrong and Morin in third and fourth. Wood
made his way around the back-markers a little bit better than Kolkman which
gave him a little breathing room. At the half way point Wood held a one second
gap over Kolkman as both riders were lapping near the fifteen second flat mark.
With nine laps to go Jorgensen looked to be tiring and had Gil all over his
backside wanting his fifth place position. Armstrong at this point Armstrong
was a full two seconds behind Kolkman in third with Morin another 2.4 seconds
adrift of Armstrong in fourth. With seven laps remaining Wood had lapped up to
seventh place keeping riders between himself and Kolkman. Gil finally got past
Jorgensen for fifth with five laps remaining while Wood put another rider a lap
down. On the final lap Wood would put Jorgensen a lap down as well making the
final finishing order Wood, Kolkman, Armstrong Morin Gil, Bohanman, Jorgensen,
and Colt Foster.
The final round of the S.C.F.T.A. would be held the next day
(Sunday) paying double points which would help decide many of the class
championships.
