JERRY GREER R.I.P.
Jerry
Greer passed away suddenly from a massive heart attack on Monday,
December 17th. Son, Tom, said he lost his true mentor and a motivator
like no other. Originally from Mobile, Alabama, Jerry had a full
life. He was schooled in Aeronautical Engineering and Aviation
Management, but his life centered on motorcycles. He came to
California in the late 1960’s. He freelanced for Cycle News magazine
while racing in Adelanto, Huntington Beach and later, Corona. Jerry
raced Flat Track mostly and was frequently on the podium in the
lightweight (250) Amateur/Semi-Pro events. He raced, and still won
through the mid 1980’s. Jerry restored motorcycles, favoring
Maico’s. In 1982, his Maico got a 4th at the Houston TT and a 5th at
the Ascot TT. In the early 80’s Jerry got interested in Craig Vetter’s
motorcycle - mileage contests. He was full of knowledge and humor
and shared it with his family, friends and on Facebook. Jerry is racing
on the big track in the sky and will be truly missed. Jerry leaves his
wife Jan, two sons, Jeff and Thomas, and a large extended family. Both
sons have grandchildren. There will be a private service on Friday and
a memorial around the 2nd week in January. Tom will post it on Facebook
when they have it set up. The family says thanks to all for your
support and kind words.
