4-26-2009 Eddie Mulder's W.C.V.D.T. Round #1
Willow Springs, Rosmond, Calif.

Article by Jamey Blunt

One hundred forty nine entries, twenty heat races, a dash for cash, a semi, and seventeen main events made up round one of Eddie Mulder's West Coast Vintage Dirt Track series at Willow Springs 3/8 mile banked dirt oval.

The Maxxis Tires/ Motion Pro Open Amateur main found Dillon Allen launching off the line to lead the field of sixteen into turn one. Down the back straight Tyler O'Hara settled in at second with Garrett Stout in third. On the second trip through turn one O'Hara went wide enough for a truck to pass and Stout moved through to second. But his slip backward wasn't finished as O'Hara's mistake landed him all the way down in fifth. On the next exit from turn four Stout took the lead away from Allen as O'Hara settled himself down and was marching forward and was the only rider in the field capable of under 22.00 second lap times. On the next lap entering turn three O'Hara passed Allen to take over second position and locked his sights on Stout at the front. While from deep in the field Briar Bauman and Patrick Osmer had found their rhythm and were charging forward fast. Exiting turn two with two and a half laps remaining O'Hara couldn't be denied and took over the lead. Stout was still in second but now Briar Bauman was all over him pressuring for his spot while behind them Osmer was scrapping and banging bars with Allen for fourth. The fight over second would last to the finish as O'Hara pulled away for the victory. Bauman won out over determined Stout for second with Osmer fourth over Allen's fifth.

Joe Brown led the pack of twelve into turn one for the PVL/Megacycle Cams
Super Senior main event. Mickey Alzola dropped in behind with Herb Wolff and Lawrence Bertrand giving chase. Three laps into the race Alzola who had let Brown extend his lead to over two seconds decided it was time to pick up the pace and dropped his lap times into the 24 second range. With two laps remaining Alzola took the lead as Wolff and Bertrand had closed on Brown as well. On the run to the stripe Brown held on for second as Bertrand barely beat Wolff to steal away third. Oh Alzola, he was long gone at this point and notched yet another victory in his racing trophy case.
